June 21st 2008
Alan Haigh, Johnnie Chan, Alan Jeurken and Alex Richards all attended the Scottish Open Championships held in Glasgow in June. The long trip north of the border was well worth it, and a more in-depth story with photos and video is coming very soon!

May 18th 2008
Alan Haigh, Matt Jones and Alex Richards attended a seminar at the Wirral Taekwondo Club on May the 18th. Master O'Neil took the grading and focussed on stances and 3 and 2 step sparring, amongst many other things. It was a very useful session and Master O'Neil's advice and guidance was invaluable for all who took part.

May 7th 2008
Wai Lau, James Greer and Gareth Knight graded on the 7th of May. The grading was take by Mr Johnnie Chan IV Dan. Wai Lau passed her 6th Kup and James and Gareth passed their 9th Kup. Congratulations to all students for their good progress.

April 23rd 2008
Unfortunately, Quoc Lu is leaving the club because he is moving to Australia. We wish him all the best for his new life down under and hope he finds a club to continue the Taekwon-Do. We went for some drinks after class to see him off.
Good luck Quoc - you will be missed!

February 28th 2008 - Grading
Alan Haigh and Alex Richards took their 8th Kup grading and passed. They are both Green Tag belt holders now.
Congratulations to them on their good progress.
February 9th 2008 - Chinese New Year Demonstration
This year, the Huddersfield School Of Taekwon-Do participated in the Chinese new year celebrations held at the University of Huddersfield. Mr Chan organised the display put on by himself and students of the school, Wai Lau, Matt Jones, Alan Haigh and Alex Richards. IV dan black belt Felix Lopez made the trip over to Huddersfield to take part.
Colour belt patterns, Chon Ji and Dan Gun were demonstrated in formation along with two rounds of sparring. Colour belt students all broke wood boards successfully and Mr Chan and Mr Lopez broke wood boards, tiles and bricks ending the display with an impressive climax.
The demo was a great success and thanks and congratulations go to all who participated. Special thanks also go to Katy Richards who was kind enough to video the display. The footage can be seen in the Video section.
August 2007 - North west area grading 18th August
The third area grading of the year was held at Batley and hosted by Steve Arundale of Gommersal TKD school.
Master Raymond O’Niel conducted the grading and seminar which was well received by all who attended.
Congratulations to all successful students!
Quoc Lu and Ivan Chan Tsz Lung were both promoted to 5th Kup and Alex Richards was promoted to 8th Kup
July 2007 - Peter Buckley memorial cup 15th July
The 2007 North West inter-schools championship in memory of Peter Buckley was held at Holy cross college in Bury Manchester.
Many thanks and appreciation is due to the organisers, Manchester TKD and all other black belts who made this event possible.
Well done to Huddersfield students who took part, everyone walked away with medals!
- Ivan Chan Tsz Lung achieved Silver in patterns and Bronze in sparring
- Quoc Lu achieved Gold in patterns and Bronze in sparring
- Alex Richards achieved Silver in sparring and Bronze in patterns
June 2007 - 2nd June Welsh open championships all students walk away with medals
Quoc Lu, Ivan Chan Tsz Lung, Wai Lau and Mr.Chan made the journey to Cardiff to compete in the Welsh open championships.
The Friday night traffic was horrendous but a good nights sleep rejuvenated everyone ready for the competition on the Saturday. In patterns Ivan calmly and confidently worked his way up through the pack of greenbelts to end up in the final where he secured silver. Mr. Chan achieved bronze in 4th Dan patterns.
In sparring everyone secured a medal, Quoc fought bravely through 5 rounds to end up in the final of ~75kgY/G belt walking away with a silver.
Wai fought bravely to achieve a bronze in ~55kgY/G belt and Ivan won gold in ~65kg Y/G belt.
Mr. Chan was moved up a division beating Greg Bagwell and going on to the final of +85kg against Felix Lopez from Bury, in the end achieving a silver medal.
Well done to all students we are a small club that packs a big punch! Bring on the UK open …
April 2007 - No more Sunday class
Unfortunately there will be no more class on a Sunday training on Wednesday has been extended by half an hour to 2 hours. A second class will resume in the autumn.
March 2007 - Competition success at Scottish championships
On the 24th march Huddersfield TKD braved the Scottish winter and made the journey to Glasgow to compete in the Scottish open championships. Wai Lau, Ivan Chan Tsz Lung and Mr Chan all competed well. With Ivan securing a well-earned silver in yellow belt patterns and Mr. Chan achieving Silver in -85kg sparring and bronze in IV Dan patterns.
Mr. Chan also competed in an international friendly team tournament between UKTA (select team), Slovenia and Scotland, as member of the UKTA team. In sparring UKTA beat the Slovenians and drew with Scottish. Patterns were won by the Slovenians followed by the Scottish with UKTA in last place.
This was an invaluable experience for Mr. Chan as this was the first time he competed in an international event, but will certainly not be the last!
March 2007 - Black belt grading Glasgow
Together with other black belt students from the northwest area Mr Chan attended a three-day seminar and grading under the supervision of Grandmaster Rhee Ki Ha IX.
Mr.Chan was successful promoted to IV Dan; Mr Lopez from Manchester TKD was also promoted to IV Dan. Thus significantly raising the profile of the Northwest with the addition of two new international instructors.
February 2007 - Northwest area grading and seminar
Congratulations to all students who achieved promotion at the recent area grading, hosted by Mr Winston rose and conducted by master John Taylor VII at Holy cross, Bury. In his seminar master Taylor focused on sparring drawing on his vast knowledge of international competition involvement.

November 2006 - Competition success at the UK open Sheffield
On 18th November Mr. Chan, Matt Jones, Quoc Lu and Ivan Chan Tsz Lung travelled down to Sheffield to compete in the UK open hosted at Ponds Forge leisure centre. For all of the students this was their first time at a competition and everyone walked away with a medal.
Quoc Lu battled though several rounds to secure a gold in yellow belt patterns, Matt Jones achieved bronze in +85kg sparring and Ivan Chan Tsz Lung achieved bronze in ~65kg sparring.
Mr. Chan also fought hard to achieve silver in special technique with the target being close to 2.4m. Congratulations to all those who attended!
